Take Care of Your Tattoo

After an impressive tattoo design by our experienced and talented tattoo artist's Coop and Bailey at Harold's Tattoo and Body Piercing, we want you to be very careful and follow our instructions, so you won't have any infections, discomfort, or problems. We will give you a flyer with these instructions after your tattoo and if you have any questions, even the smallest, you must call us -

      1. Leave the tattoo bandaged for a minimum of 2 hours and no longer than 12 hours.
      2. Once the bandage is removed, using an unscented antibactial soap, wash the tattoo well using your hand and hot soapy water. Once the bandage is completely removed, do not re-bandage the tattoo.
      3. When done washing the tattoo, gently pat the tattoo - do not rub - with a clean towel and allow the tattoo to air dry for about 5-10 minutes.
      4. Wash the tattoo as described in #2 and #3, 3-4 times daily for 2 weeks.
      5. Apply a fragrance-free skin moisturizer to the tattoo 4-6 times a day. We recommend Curel or Lubriderm. The skin moisturizer can be applied about 3-4 times daily for 10-14 days or until the tattoo has completely stopped peeling.
      6. Somewhere between 2 and 6 days, the tattoo will start to flake off like tissue paper. Do not shave, pick, or scratch the tattoo - just leave it alone and let the skin peel and flake off naturally. You will notice small pieces of dry skin containing color coming off while using the lotion or washing the tattoo, on the bed sheets, or on your clothing. This is normal, it is just the top layer of dead skin coming off. Your tattoo is not disappearing.
      7. Do not soak the tattoo; avoid swimming; the bath tub; hot tub or saunas and direct sunlight for the first 2-3 weeks.

Note: a 30 minute shower is fine.

      8. No shaving or waxing the tattoo's area until the tattoo is completely healed.
      9. Do not let your tattoo come into contact with anyone's bodily fluids. If you notice secretions after 2 days, redness, swelling, soreness, or red lines coming from the area of the tattoo, be sure to call us immediately. It is your responsibility to properly take care of your tattoo after you leave our shop. Do not listen to friends or so-called tattoo experts. You must call Harold's Tattoo and Body Piercing for any questions or concerns regarding your tattoo, 817-297-2787.
      10. Never apply alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Vaseline petroleum jelly, sunblock to a fresh tattoo.
      11. Always allow the tattoo to be exposed to the air, allowing it to breathe to help the healing process. Do not wear tight fitting clothing. Be sure not to scratch a fresh tattoo on the bed sheets. Wear loose fitting clothing that covers the tattoo if working in a dirty environment.
