Okay, to be informed before and after your body piercing, read our list of do's and don'ts.
1. Don't touch your piercing with dirty hands! That goes for others touching it as well. Make sure you wash your hands well with antibacterial soap before touching your new piercing.
2. Wash the skin around your piercing with antibacterial soap and warm water. Then spray H2Ocean Piercing Aftercare Spray or Bactine around the area, and rinse well afterwards. Repeat this 2-3 times per day.
3. For oral piercings, a 50/50 mixture of alcohol free mouthwash and distilled or bottled water should be used after meals, drinks, and every 2-3 cigarettes for smokers. Beer should be avoided during the healing process because of the yeast. Also, try and cut out spicy or acidic foods, and chewing tobacco.
4. Avoid swimming.
5. Avoid tanning beds and direct sunlight for a few weeks. Definitely avoid sand, dirt, oils such as tanning oils, make-up, and lotions around your piercing.
6. Don't wear tight fitting clothes that could irritate or snag your new piercing.
7. Be sure to clean your bed sheets at least once a week and avoid rubbing your piercing on the bed sheets so you won't create a snag or irritation.
8. Do not attempt to change your jewelry until the piercing is completely healed.
9. The piercing should not have any secretions, clear or bloody. Do not let your piercing come into contact with anyone's bodily fluids, period. At first, you will experience some tenderness but a week after the piercing it should not be sore. Be patient, some piercings can take up to a year to heal completely but the average is 3 months. If you notice secretions, redness, swelling, soreness, or red lines coming from the area be sure to call us immediately.
10. Never apply alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Neosporin, or other ointments on your piercing.
Sea Salt Soak: Provided your piercing is in an accessible area, sea salt soaks are a great way to help heal and care for a new body piercing. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized fine ground Sea Salt - not to be confused with table salt, Epsom salt, or rock salt - with 1 cup of warm water. Soak piercing in the solution for 3-5 minutes daily before a shower. Make sure to wash with your antibacterial soap and aftercare spray when you have finished with your soak.
